Varsity clash with DUT Rovers in Super League hockey

2008-06-05 00:00

THERE is another superb KZN Super League club hockey fixture on offer at the AB Jackson GreenFields Turf on Sunday.

It reminds one of the titanic struggle for the national club title at the same venue last year. Sunday’s 1.15 pm clash at the ABJ promises to be another cracker, much like the epic last September.

Then, Maritzburg Varsity played some of the most sublime hockey you are likely to witness at this level in the first 35 minutes, and were almost certain of being named the most powerful club team in the country.

However, legendary Mike Cullen said something to his Durban Tech (now Rovers) team at half-time, because they came out smoking to turn the match around.

Tech went on to be champions, while a disappointed Varsity finished second.

A buoyant Varsity can set the record straight this year when they tackle a Rovers side scrambling to get back on track after two defeats.

Also playing: PMB Collegians vs Kearsney (10.45).
