Varsity overrun newcomers

2013-11-07 00:00

JUST one match was played in the KZN Inland Premier League as rain and associated bad light played havoc with the weekend fixtures.

Varsity, log-leaders alongside defending champions Standard, overran league newcomers Masibemunye by 196 runs at the Varsity Oval.

Varsity scored 254 all out from 50 overs with Joe Chikosi (51), Razer Suhail (49), Lucky Dladla (45) and Khivaar Mohanllal (44) the main contributors.

Sthembiso Makhaya returned the outstanding figures of 10 overs, two maidens, four wickets for 27 runs with the ball for Masibemunye but was offered scant support from the rest of the bowling attack.

Masibemunye were bowled out for 58 in 29 overs with Mohanllal (three for 16 in eight overs) and Ashley Sokaloo (four overs, four maidens, three wickets for no runs) the chief destroyers.

Other results: Standard vs Midlands at Wanderers Club: Standard receive a walkover due to Midlands’ withdrawal from the competition. Northern KZN Combined XI vs Young Natalians at Settlers Park, Ladysmith: Match abandoned due to bad weather. Lancashire vs Zingari at Woodlands: Match abandoned due to bad weather.
