IT was a great weekend for Varsity club cricket with three wins from three matches.

Last Friday evening’s launch of the KFC Inland 20/20 Series at the Varsity Oval was a huge success with a festive crowd supporting the double-header affair.

In the 4 pm match, the Varsity second XI beat KZN Inland Premier League side K&L from Ladysmith by 80 runs in what was a big confidence-booster for the campus-based club as a whole.

In the 7 pm match, the Varsity first XI beat the Woodlands-based Lancashire by 110 runs.

KZN Inland captain Ross McMillan starred by belting 69 off 40 deliveries.

Varsity team-mate Matt Kretzmann made a breezy 41 off 37 balls, and the devastating big-hitter, Glen Addicott, hammered 35 off just 28 balls.

And in Sunday’s KZN Inland Premier League fare, defending champions Varsity beat Zingari by four wickets.

McMillan and Ollie Humphries were their star performers with bat and ball respectively.

There were also morale-boosting victories for Young Natalians and K&L over Orientals and Lancs respectively.

Mario Olivier and KZN Inland player/coach Doug Watson both hit hundreds in the 120-run victory by Midlands over Northern Districts of Newcastle.
