Vavi: ‘Let’s stay ahead of rolling ball’

FRESH back from his emergency visit to a Carletonville mine where workers have been on a wildcat strike, Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said Cosatu should stay ahead of the “rolling ball” of strikes happening outside of the set rules.

Vavi said the miners at the Goldfields KTC West mine in Driefontein near Carletonville demanded a wage rise to R12 500, the same as that which the Lonmin miners in Marikana were demanding, and the resignation of the union leadership at the mine.
