Vigilantes throw bodies off cliff

POLICE nabbed several suspected murderers in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday relating to two incidents.

One of the cases involved vigilantism in which two suspected housebreakers were kidnapped and killed.

In the first case police at kwaMakhutha, south of Durban, responded to a complaint about two brothers who had been kidnapped and killed after an alleged housebreaking in the area.

It is alleged that the aggrieved home owner and his friends confronted the men and kidnapped them on October 12.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the owner of the house and a friend who was implicated in the kidnapping were arrested.

After lengthy questioning the police were led to a cliff in the Mid-Illovo area where the men’s bodies had been dumped.

“Members of the search-and-rescue unit abseiled down the cliff and bagged the bodies before they were airlifted from the bottom of the cliff.

“At this stage both men will now be charged for murder.

“We expect to make more arrests soon,” Naicker said.

In the second incident police at kwaNdengezi, near Pinetown, arrested three men and a child for the murder of a mentally challenged man, Mageza Ndlovu (30), in the Rockdale area.

“According to members of the community he was assaulted by a group of men, some of whom were known,” Naicker said.

“Detectives … arrested four males, one of whom is a 12-year-old juvenile.

“The other three suspects are aged between 22 and 28 years old.

“More arrests are expected,” Naicker added.
