‘Wandering’ man shot after pulling knife on cops

2010-11-22 00:00

A MAN was shot and killed in Oslo Beach on Saturday evening when he allegedly tried to attack a police officer with a knife.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid of Port Shepstone police, two police officers had asked a pedestrian to get off the main road.

The man apparently refused to do so and pulled a knife on one of the officers before running away.

He continued to wander in the road and the two officers tried once more to control him.

The man then attempted to attack one of the officers with the knife, and was shot in the chest.

He died at the scene.

Wiid said no foul play is suspected and that an inquest docket has been opened.
