Warriors outclassed by Titans

2014-10-04 00:00

THE Unlimited Titans dominated the second day of the Sunfoil Series match against the Chevrolet Warriors thanks to a magnificent double-century by Roelof van der Merwe and a classy collective bowling effort that had the visitors under pressure on 158 for five at the close yesterday at Sahara Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

Colin Ingram and Simon Harmer rallied in the session after tea to regain some self-respect for the Warriors following the loss of Ryan Bailey to a Shaun von Berg top-spinner for 15.

They shared in an unbeaten partnership of 72 off 21 overs to offer the Warriors a glimmer of hope, although the visitors are still 381 runs in arrears.

Ingram finished on 59, off 113 balls, with nine fours.

Harmer, a useful lower-order batsman, was full of enterprise in his 31 off 63 balls. He slammed six fours.

Earlier, Van der Merwe produced the batting highlight by scoring an unbeaten 205 off 260 balls.

He featured in a classy 184-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batsman Mangaliso Mosehle for the sixth wicket against a demoralised attack.

The Titans finished on 539 for six before Henry Davids declared the innings closed.

The Warriors slipped to 45 for four at tea.

Farhaan Behardien featured in three of the dismissals.

The Warriors attack lacked fire-power, penetration and guile on a slow surface.
