Water: Outage closes offices

2012-06-16 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG CBD government offices, businesses and courts were forced to close yesterday as there was no water.

Municipal spokesperson Brain Zuma said the municipality scheduled a shut-down between 8 pm and 4 am on Thursday night to fix pipes. “However, things went wrong and there was a malfunctioning of the valve. Then our team had to replace the valve during the day. Unfortunately we could not warn people as this was unplanned and it had become an emergency. We apologise profusely to all affected,” said Zuma.

The courts worked until 11 am and government officials were happy to be sent home as it was pay day, but people looking for service were not impressed.
