Water outages in Vulindlela

2012-12-05 00:00

ESKOM’s planned routine maintenance in Msunduzi Municipality will lead to water outages in the Vulindlela area on December 6 or 10 from 7 am to 5 pm.

Municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma said the Vulindlela community would experience water outages because Groenkloof and Mpophomeni reservoirs in Howick, which supply water to the area, would be under maintenance.

“This notification serves to inform all residents that because of this planned routine outage, consumers in the Vulindlela area could possibly be without water for the complete duration of the above mentioned period or a substantial proportion thereof,” he said.

However, Zuma said it was envisaged that the recovery period of certain reservoirs and restoring the supply of water to the affected areas might take longer than 10 hours, with a complete recovery early the following morning.

“It is essential that consumers residing in the Vulindlela area take contingency measures to ensure that they keep water to accommodate their needs for the duration of this planned outage and the recovery process as well.”

Zuma said the maintenance was vital for improving sustainability of electricity supply and it would ensure that reservoirs were in good working condition to supply water within the area.

People experiencing water outages after the complete recovery the following morning should call Umgeni Water at 033 341 1111 (Customer Care).
