Wedding: a second new year for Nkandla when Zuma marries fifth wife

2009-12-31 00:00

A HUGE marquee that can accommodate 5 000 people has been erected at President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla residence for his fifth wedding on Monday.

For residents of the Nxamalala clan area, where Zuma lives, who will all be welcome at the marriage of Zuma and Thobeka Madiba (37), it will be a second new year.

Residents said yesterday they are very happy for the president.

Richard Zuma, who is not a direct relative, said preparations began on December 20, suggesting that the community kept the wedding plans quiet for a while before Inkosi Bhekumuzi Zuma, a family member, confirmed them on Tuesday.

Locals said VIPs from all over the country are expected to attend the wedding.

Local woman Halala Sibiya said Madiba “is a charming person who shows respect to everyone”.

Men in the area said the coming wedding “shows [Zuma] is a man”.

Zuma is currently married to Gertrude Khumalo and Nompumelelo Ntuli.
