Wedding splurge: Valley of the Waves transformed into an exotic island

2013-05-02 00:00

GUESTS at the second day of the lavish Gupta wedding yesterday looked on as the well-known Valley of the Waves at Sun City was transformed into an exotic island destination.

Several brightly coloured tents were put up for guests on the artificial beach and a giant stage was erected in the “sea”. Guests also each received a small umbrella to shield them against the sun.

Vega Gupta (23) and Aakash Jahajgarhia (24) will officially tie the knot today, but yesterday the couple held the exchanging of rings ceremony at the Valley of the Waves.

Chefs were especially flown in from India to provide the approximately 500 guests with traditional Indian dishes. There were also Spanish, Lebanese and Italian dishes on offer.

During Tuesday’s ceremony Vega was presented with gifts like jewellery and cosmetics.

The guests danced outside the entrance to the Palace Hotel near the famous elephant statue. The scene looked like a Bollywood film set.

Yesterday the bridegroom wore a light blue suit, while the bride was dressed in a yellow outfit.

The couple will declare their eternal love to each other in the Super Bowl at Sun City today.

The official wedding website states Vega holds an honours degree in financial management, and while she was born in India, she lives with her family in the Guptas’ residence in Saxonwold in Johannesburg.

The bride and groom have a range of outfits to choose from to wear on the big day, depending on how they’re feeling. The wedding was arranged by an Indian events planning agency.

The couple will also have a ceremony in India, which about 5 000 guests are expected to attend.
