Weigh-less Title: Victors of 2009

LYNN Campbell, who describes herself as a nifty 50-year-old, has clinched the title of Weigh-Less Woman of the Year 2009.

The research and development manager from Pinelands in Cape Town, who lost 41,4 kg in eight and a half months, received the accolade during a special ceremony in Durban yesterday.

Campbell’s weight problems started in her late 30s when she moved to Cape Town to build her career. “My career was successful, but my personal life was falling apart. My husband stayed in East London and I lacked support and personal affirmation. Together with travelling, late hours and lack of exercise, I ate unhealthy foods at irregular times and started putting on weight. In 13 years I went from a size 36 to a 44.”

Joining Campbell on the winners rostrum was Weigh-Less Man of the Year, Theo Potgieter, a lecturer from Bloemfontein, who lost 17,2 kg in five months. Having piled on the kilos through over-indulging in the good life, he found himself with high cholestrol and in danger of sleeping in the spare room due to his heavy snoring.

“Men don’t do diets, we drink and we braai, so I think you need to sell it on the health angle. Guys who diet are viewed as sissies and that image needs to be broken down,” he said.
