Welcome 2010 at Midmar Dam with top musicians

KWAZULU-NATAL can welcome 2010 in style with a feast of performances from top musicians and groups at ­Midmar Dam on the eve of the New Year.

The internationally acclaimed group Freshlyground will be headlining. Also in the line-up is featured act Stimela.

Durban kwaito wizards Big NUZ will do the count-down with the fans as they are tasked with the ­responsibility of ending 2009 on stage and welcoming in 2010. Fans can ­expect to sing along to tunes such as Ubala lolo, ­Stakh’eNewlands West and Umlilo.

A train has been organised to ferry people from Durban station to Midmar via Pietermaritzburg on December 31. The train will depart from Durban ­Station at noon, stopping at all stations en route to Pietermaritzburg, then passengers will be bussed to the venue. The train will return at 7 am on New Year’s Day.

The festival is picnic style — take the family, picnic bags, camp chairs and braai stands.

Security will be tight for safety — no weapons will be allowed on site.

Tickets are on sale at Computicket at R150 per person. No tickets will be sold at the venue. The train will cost an extra R50 for a return ticket. Parking is free and there is enough to cater for all patrons.
