Westville in emphatic performance

2011-03-08 00:00

WESTVILLE swimmers finished off the 2011 season with an emphatic winning performance at the Durban and Districts Boys’ A League Relay Gala on Wednesday night. This is the fourth year in succession that Westville have won this gala.

On the evening, in front of a capacity crowd of cheering spectators, the Westville Boys’ High School A team dominated, winning each event in the U14, U15, U16 and U17 age groups.

The U14 swimmers were chased home on each occasion by Clifton, DHS and Glenwood, but in the end were too strong for their opponents.

The U15 swimmers also had to work hard for each win with Clifton hot on their heels. It was usually left to their anchorman, Juandre Wiggill, to put some distance between himself and the opposition.

The Westville U16 and U17 teams had it all their own way, beating their opponents by a large margin. What was especially impressive with both age groups was that they broke the existing records in every race in which they swam and accounted for 10 of the 11 records broken on the evening by Westville.

The final record to fall went to Westville in the five-age freestyle ladder relay, the final event of the evening.

In the U19 age group, Kearsney dominated as they have done through the age groups. This team of Kearsney swimmers have been undefeated through their school career.

Westville’s swimming depth was evident as their B team came sixth out of the 10 participating teams, beating Northwood.

POSITIONS: 1 Westville A, 2 Kearsney, 3 Clifton, 4 DHS, 5 Glenwood A, 6 Westville B, 7 Northwood, 8 Glenwood B, 9 George Campbell, 10 DHS B.
