ONE man died trying to cross the N3 at night and five people were injured in two separate multi-car pile-ups on wet roads in Pinetown and Pietermaritzburg on Monday.

The 51-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a truck while trying to cross the N3 between New England and Market Road on Monday night.

He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

On Alan Paton Avenue in Pietermaritzburg, a four-car pile-up caused light injuries to an eight-year-old boy and a woman.

A five-car pile-up in Pinetown — all travelling in the same direction — injured a mother and her 15-year-old daughter.
