Wet weather takes its toll, but all is not lost

IT’S as if an anti-cricket spell has been cast on the Maritzburg Oval this season after yet another day of potentially fascinating play was ruined by bad weather yesterday.

There will have to be some very imaginative declarations if KZN Inland and KZN Coastal are to get an outright result on the final day of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition cricket today.

While Thursday was a productive one for KZN Inland, who were 271 for five at stumps, yesterday was simply one of frustration as bad light and the rain contrived to ensure just four overs’ play was possible.

Weather permitting, tomorrow’s 50-over match promises to be a thriller, as a number of Dolphins join the fray.

Divan van Wyk (Inland) and Calvin Savage, Mthokozisi Shezi plus Cameron Delport (all Coastal) should liven up the occasion and the Durban lads will be intent on getting their limited-overs campaign back on track. Bottom of the Coastal Stream log, KZN Coastal have some ground to make up on the Inland boys, who are in fourth place with two wins from four matches.

Had it not been for needless errors, Inland could have made it three wins in succession last Sunday after dominating most of the game against Border in East London.
