What’s hot on the box this week

2010-01-11 00:00

TYRA Banks returns to e.tv this week with a new series which will be broadcast Mondays to Fridays at 11.25 am.

Already a role model for young women, Banks has found success as a television producer, host, supermodel, author, philanthropist and businesswoman.

The Tyra Banks Show is a one-hour, daily talk show, which aims to empower women to be the best that they can be — for themselves, their families and their communities. From relationship, family, self-esteem and lifestyle issues to topical news, celebrities and pop culture, Banks will tackle a broad range of material, both in the studio and in the field.

Other highlights this week include:

Mommas Boys (SABC3, 8 pm): The remaining ladies are in the U.S. Virgin Islands with the mothers and their sons. The women continue to try and impress the mothers. The mothers do not agree with the choices of their sons and when some of the dates run too late in the evening, some of the contestants are threatened by elimination.

Top Travel (SABC3, 8 pm): Jeannie and Janez take a bus to Agra, known for its many splendid Mughal-era buildings. They first visit Fatehpur Sikri — the exquisite city built by Akbar the Great in 1569 in red sandstone, with its various palaces and mosques, before heading to the Taj Mahal — the poem in white marble which was built over a period of 22 years (1631-1653) using a workforce of 22 000 people, by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains.

Top Billing (SABC3, 7.30 pm): This week the team meets talented aerial photographer Jonathan Basckin on the ground and at home in Cape Town, and recently crowned Miss South Africa 2009, Nicole Flint.

Supernatural (SABC3, 10.15 pm): A woman named Molly and her husband are driving down the highway and swerve to miss a farmer walking on the road. Their car hits a tree and when Molly wakes up her husband is missing. Sam and Dean discover Molly and find out that the farmer haunts the highway and Molly is most likely his next victim. Sam and Dean set off to stop the farmer before he can claim her.

Best of Schuster (SABC3, 7.30 pm): This slapstick fun stars South Africa’s legendary funny man and improviser of real-life comic situations. Schuster changes his appearance to trick celebrities and members of the public into behaving ridiculously while his all-seeing camera records the outcome.
