What’s hot on the box this week

WITH Twilight fever raging across the country, fans of the vampire series can’t afford to miss The Late Show With David Letterman on Sony Entertainment Television this week.

Letterman will be chatting to Twilight stars Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob), about the latest installment in the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Stewart’s interview is being screened tomorrow at 11.15 pm, with Lautner’s on July 9.

Also on the talk show, which is broadcast on DStv channel 113, are Grammy award winning rappers Jay-Z and Eminem (tonight); John Isner, winner of the longest tennis match in Wimbledon history (tomorrow); veteran singer Dolly Parton (Wednesday); and actress Julianne Moore (Far from Heaven, The Hours), who will be talking about her latest feature film The Kids Are All Right (Thursday).

Other highlights this week:


• Grey’s Anatomy — M-Net, 7.30 pm. Fans of the medical drama cannot afford to miss the second part of the season six finale tonight, during which Christina’s surgical skills are put to the ultimate test as she operates on Derek.

• Survivor: Micronesia — SABC3, 8 pm: The Fans can’t decide where to build a beach shelter in the latest edition of the reality series, which pits Survivor superfans against some of its biggest stars.

• The Good Wife — M-Net, 8.30 pm: Another great series ends tonight. Will Alicia stand by her man if he decides to run for re-election?


• 3rd Degree — Denial — e.tv, 9.30 pm: Ten years ago, president Thabo Mbeki and Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang questioned the scientific truth that a sexually transmitted virus caused Aids. During that era, scientists say, well over 330 000 people died from Aids-related illnesses, some of whom could have survived had they had access to anti-retrovirals. 3rd Degree tells the stories of some those affected.

• Afro Café — SABC2, 10 pm: The show hosts acapella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They talk about their latest Grammy award, their new album, Joseph Shabalala’s recently acquired title and lots more.


• Gossip Girl — SABC3, 9 pm: The second series picks up in the aftermath of Serena’s frank confession to Dan. Blair has a new boyfriend whom she is using to make Chuck jealous, Serena is struggling to get over Dan, and Nate has a fling with an older woman.


• CSI: New York — M-Net, 9.30 pm: In the premiere of the new season, the CSI team gets caught in a spray of machine-gun fire, which leaves one member’s life significantly changed and gives the others the motivation they need to find the shooter.

• Law & Order — SABC3, 10.15 pm: The special victims unit is called in when a body is found with Olivia Benson’s card on it.


• Shakespeare: UGugu no Andile — SABC1, 8 pm: Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the film tells the story of two young people from opposite sides of the political divide who fall in love and risk everything to be together.
