Where will they be for Christmas? Celebs reveal plans

2014-12-24 00:00

LOCAL celebs and prominent KZN residents will be mixing up the traditional and the unusual this Christmas. And yes, they too have a wishlist.

Pietermaritzburg’s first citizen Chris Ndlela said he was looking forward to one thing this Christmas — well-cooked turkey meat!

Pietermaritzburg Chamber CEO Melanie Veness said she was going to give “adventures and experiences instead of things” this Christmas.

She said she will spend the day at home with her family. “It will be super to have everyone together. I’ll cook the traditional gammon and we’ll wear silly hats, pull crackers and celebrate the birth of Christ,” she said.

President Jacob Zuma will spend Christmas at his Nkandla home with his family, like he always does. He will host the annual senior citizens year-end function on December 27 and on December 29 the annual Jacob Zuma Foundation RDP Education Trust children and youth year-end function in Nkandla.

IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi said he will be with his family at his KwaPhindangene home in Ulundi.

Speaking through his spokesperson Liezl van der Merwe, he said he had already arranged Christmas presents for his family. “In the morning he will go to church at Nkonjeni’s St Mary’s, then host a Christmas luncheon for his close friends and family,” said Van der Merwe.

Durban tycoon Vivian Reddy said this year his family will be spending Christmas in Mauritius.

“We are hosting a Christmas lunch with 15 other friends whom we are meeting there. Every year we try to go to a different part of the world. Last year we were in Singapore and spent New Year’s in Hong Kong,” said Reddy. This year the family will spend their New Year’s in Dubai.

Newlywed Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba and Nomachule Mngoma will spend their first Christmas as husband and wife at their Pretoria home.

“Our son Mvelo was born on Christmas day in 2012 so we spent Christmas in hospital that year. Last year we were in Mandeni in KZN celebrating Mvelo’s first birthday and it was my first Christmas with my in-laws,” said Nomachule.

This year the Gigabas will throw their son a party and spend the day with close friends and family.

Gagasi FM’s Zookey Zarling (real name Zukiswa Vutela) said she will be working on Christmas day.

“I am going to wake up at 4 am and watch the sun dance like we used to when we grew up,” said Vutela.

Before heading to work, Vutela and her family will open their presents.

“After the show I am going to host a Christmas lunch at home with 15 rehabilitated Whoonga addicts.”

When asked what she would like from Father Christmas, she said: “I’d love a bank account that overflows with money for the rest of my life.”

Durban singer and actress Nandi Mngoma said she will be home with family. “My parents always surprise us by booking a table at a restaurant that we have never been to before and it is always a buffet so we eat all day.”

She said if she could ask Father Christmas for one gift, it would be “happiness and for all my dreams to come true”.
