Who is Jub Jub?

2010-03-10 00:00

JUB JUB is a 30-year-old hip-hop artist from Soweto. His real name is Molemo Maarohanye.

He is a well-known gospel rapper who has three albums under his belt, namely The Rare Breed, My Shine and his latest, Fresh Air.

He is the son of Jacqueline Maarohanye, controversially known as Mama Jackey. She was once arrested for kidnapping a Soweto pupil and for soliciting money from disadvantaged pupils and high-profile donors such as Oprah Winfrey and Bill Clinton.

Last year in Klipspruit, angry Soweto residents vandalised and shut down the Ithuteng Trust School after she was exposed for having used pupils and the school as cash cows to milk donors.

Jub Jub appeared in a Sunday tabloid recently for being kicked out of a Glenvista Village townhouse that he apparently shares with his controversial songbird girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

The townhouse reportedly caught fire after the burning of impepho, which is muthi believed to bring good luck.

It was reported that no one was in the house when thick smoke was seen coming out of a window. Then, neighbours are said to have gained entrance through a window in a quest to put out the fire.

The neighbours found what looked like impepho burning on a one-plate stove and extinguished the fire.

The couple are said to have had an argument earlier that day.

Incidentally, Jub Jub left Santa Carolina — the island on which he was a contestant of the Survivor reality show – complaining that the remote island had given him a rash, which manifested from his legs up to his genitals.
