Who left the Oval floodlights to burn all night?

2008-01-29 00:00

NEITHER the municipality nor cricket officials were available to shed light on why the floodlights at the Oval cricket stadium were left on, from Sunday afternoon until yesterday morning, despite the country’s dire electricity crisis.

No match or other activities were taking place at the stadium after the Dolphins-Warriors cricket match ended on Sunday afternoon.

Msunduzi infrastructure manager Phil Mashoko, who is in charge of electricity, was alerted to the situation at about 7 pm, but a person who drove past the stadium at about 12.30 am yesterday morning told The Witness that the lights were still on then.

Attempts to contact the Maritzburg Cricket Association yesterday for comment about who left the lights on were to no avail.

Municipal officials were also not available, despite repeated attempts to get their comment.
