Willowton Group marks 40 years with charity spree

2010-10-06 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg-based Willowton Group, market leaders in edible oil products, last night announced the beneficiaries of their R4 million charity drive.

The company is giving away R100 000 to each of 40 charities across South Africa to commemorate its 40th anniversary.

The charities, which were announced at a black-tie event to celebrate the anniversary last night in Durban, include three charities in Pietermaritzburg — the African Conservation Trust, the Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities (KZN) and The Haven.

Said the chief executive officer of the Willowton Group, Abdul Razak Moosa, “It is indeed a milestone for our family-owned business to celebrate 40 years. Our success is largely due to the invaluable business acumen and vision of founders Dawood Hassam Moosa and his brothers, Amod, Mahomed and Ebrahim, together with their respective sons.

“From a young age our parents instilled in us the culture of kindness and sharing. Based on their counsel of humility and compassion, we have decided that there is no better way to celebrate our anniversary than to give to those who need it the most.”

Willowton started from humble beginnings, growing to become one of South Africa’s largest manufacturers of fast-moving consumer goods products, including edible oils, candles, toilet and laundry soaps, margarine and spreads, and confectionary, baki

ng and industrial fats.

Willowton’s brands include Sunfoil, D’lite, Crown, SunGold, Britelite, Daily, Eve, Cameo, Sunshine D, Nuvo and Romi, which are stocked in leading stores in southern and central Africa.
