‘Witness’ Capital Climb: take it easy and enjoy the view

2010-08-13 00:00

IT’S the Witness Capital Climb tomorrow, and if you want to be ready to race, make sure you eat a light, high-energy breakfast at least two hours before the start.

Avoid sugar or carbohydrates after that and stick to water until the start.

Drink plenty of liquids along the way and take it easy.

Attempting to run or walk faster than your training has prepared you for will make the race unpleasant at best.

Have fun and take time to enjoy the spectacular scenery at World’s View and the morning sunshine.

Don’t forget that there is a fun run version, so if you’re feeling tired, turn off at the indicators and enjoy the five-kilometre route version that avoids the dreaded hill.

Be sure to stay for the lucky draw at the finish. With R12 500 in prizes from Blomeyer’s to be won, it’s worth the wait!

You can still enter for the Capital Climb at the Voortrekker school grounds today between noon and 6pm or at the city hall tomorrow between 6 and 7.45 am. There is plenty of time to enter in the morning, provided you are at the city hall in time. Don’t begin your race in a mad rush to enter; plan your start and enjoy the race. The entry fee for fun-runners is R30, for licensed runners R40, and temporary licences will be available at R20. Children must be at least nine years old to enter the fun run and 15 to enter the main race. A list of the results of all licensed runners will be printed in The Witness on Monday.
