A JOHANNESBURG woman died on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast after she emerged from the water during a diving exercise at sea. The 51-year-old woman is believed to have died from a heart attack.
A group of divers from Johannesburg were visiting Umkomaas for a diving party.
Marc Bernadis, owner of The Shore Dive, hosted the group.
“It was the first time she had dived at sea but she is used to diving inland. An instructor was with her and she jumped into the water.
“She came up to the boat but she lost consciousness.”
Her condition deteriorated drastically and those around her initiated CPR while the boat rushed to shore. Netcare 911 paramedics arrived but also failed to resuscitate the woman and she was declared dead on the scene.
