Woman almost loses out on winning a car after her handbag is stolen

A STOLEN handbag almost cost a Pietermaritzburg woman a brand new car last week.

Diana Santoro, who won a car from Spar, almost did not receive her prize after her handbag containing her winning till slip was stolen. Her local Spar in Hilton came to her rescue by providing Santoro with a copy of her till slip.

When Santoro entered the competition she was careful to keep her slip safe in a section of her handbag.

“I was dropping off my domestic worker at the bus stop. When I went to help her take her things out of the boot, a man ran up to the car, opened it, took my bag and ran off. I was very upset.” When she was contacted and confirmed as a winner by Coca Cola, who ran the competition with Spar, her heart sank as she did not have the till slip to claim her prize. “They told me I could not get the car. They were sorry, but without the till slip they would have to move on to someone else. I asked if there was anything I could do, and they provided me with the details of the slip, and I went to Spar to get the copy. The managers were very helpful.”

Mark Strang, manager of Hilton Spar, said: “We were happy to help. It was not easy to get the copy, but we did it.” Santoro received her car last Monday.
