Woman confesses to fake abduction

A BABY boy reported kidnapped in a robbery in Kempton Park on the East Rand, was found safe with his mother yesterday, Gauteng police said.

He had not been kidnapped, and a case of perjury was being opened, said Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale.

It was initially reported that three men and two women broke into a house in Kempton Park West on Monday evening, tied up the baby’s mother and her 16-year-old daughter, and drugged them.

The robbers were reported to have taken the baby, its clothes and the mother’s cellphone, said Mogale.

The father, Julius Lubisi (46), arrived home after 10 pm and untied his wife and daughter.

Police found no signs of forced entry. “Through investigation, the police managed to trace the child and found him with his real mother in Witbank [in Mpumalanga],” said Mogale, who said the boy was four months old and not 13 days old, as was initially thought.

Lubisi said when he arrived home he found the front door open and broken glass in the sitting room, where the couch was on its side. “My daughter was tied in her bedroom. My wife, Busi, was also in the bedroom, also tied and her head had been shoved under the bed, but my boy was nowhere,” he said.

Busi had initially told him three men and two women had entered the house and sedated Pam, their daughter, before tying Busi, forcing a disposable diaper in her mouth and tying a sock around her eyes.

“I called the police and started searching,” Lubisi said.

Late yesterday afternoon, when several media organisations were reporting on the abduction, Busi admitted that she had lied about the whole drama to impress Lubisi, who had also wanted a boy.

Busi had pretended to be pregnant and had agreed with her niece, who was really pregnant, to raise her boy Jaden as her own. Lubisi said Busi had gone to eMalahleni (Witbank) to give birth because she said she preferred the hospital there.

On Sunday Jaden’s biological father called Busi and said he wanted his son. She returned the baby to him on Monday and then concocted the entire robbery and abduction story.
