Woman conned out of her savings

2014-03-12 00:00

IF it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.

This is the warning from police who are looking for a suspect who allegedly conned a woman out of her life savings of R69 000. The woman was duped into believing that a man, identified only as Paul and who posed as a traditional healer from Kenya, could double her money.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said Pietermaritzburg police were appealing for information on the whereabouts of the man.

He said in March 2013, a 53-year-old woman was scammed into believing that her money could be doubled by a man who befriended her.

Anyone that can assist with any information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the man pictured should contact Detective Warrant Officer Jay Rugbeer on 033 845 2784 or 083 630 8316, or Lieutenant-Colonel Naresh Nandhlal on 079 696 3712 or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
