Woman killed as truck rams car

2014-06-18 00:00

A WOMAN was killed and a man was seriously injured when a truck slammed into their car in the intersection of Stalwart Simelane Street (formerly Stanger) and Sandile Thusi Road (formerly Argyle) in Durban yesterday afternoon.

The woman, killed on impact, had celebrated her 48th birthday on Monday.

It is understood that the pair were travelling towards the beach when they crossed the busy intersection and their car was struck by the truck carrying tons of sand.

Paramedics pulled the man from the wreckage and manage to stabilise him while firemen worked frantically to pull the woman from the passenger seat.

RescueCare operations director Garrith Jamieson said that paramedics treated and stabilised the injured man at the scene.

“The man had sustained serious injuries. Paramedics and police search and rescue officers treated him before he was transported to Addington Hospital by ambulance.”

Jamieson added that traffic was adversely affected whilst emergency service personnel cleared the scene.
