Woman mauled by dogs ‘often went wandering’

2013-10-09 00:00

THE woman found brutally attacked by dogs in the Nguswa area outside Botha’s Hill near Hillcrest often went wandering in the neighbourhood by herself, her daughter said.

Bonisile Mbhele (44) had on countless occasions gone missing as she walked in her sleep, her daughter Nqobile Mbhele said. She was always found safe and brought back home. However, in the early hours of Monday morning, she was found lying on the ground, an arm and leg almost torn off after she was mauled by neighbourhood dogs.

Nqobile said her mother, who has a mental problem, used medication to control it. She had been walking back home after visiting her friends when the incident occurred.

“She never came back … I only learnt the following day that she was bitten by dogs,” Nqobile said.

“My mother is in terrible pain, highly sedated and underwent an operation yesterday.”

Late yesterday afternoon Nqobile was still awaiting news of the outcome of the operation.

ER24 spokersperson Vanessa Jackson said earlier when they arrived at the scene that the woman was lying on the ground with large gaping bite wounds to her arms and legs.

“Despite her being alert at the time, she was in a critical condition and in a severe amount of pain,” she said.
