Woman raped in front of child

2012-10-30 00:00

NO sooner had one South Coast rapist been put behind bars, another struck in the space of only a week.

The most recent attacker took it upon himself to rape a 23-year-old woman in front of her mother as well as her child.

Police spokesperson Lietenant Colonel Zandra Wiid said he did so after dragging his victim and her child from under a table where they had been hiding.

She and her two family members had been asleep on Wednesday night when he entered their home at Msinisini, after demanding that they let him in.

After assaulting them with a firearm, he ordered the victim’s mother to take her grandchild into a corner and threatened to kill them if they made a noise.

Once he finished raping the victim, he fled.

No arrests have been made.

Only a week ago, in a separate case, Dumisani Mndiyatha (22) was sentenced to 20 years’ jail for robbing and raping two sisters in Marburg, in June 2010.

The case against his co-accused, Solani Lucas Khafu, continues at Scottburgh high court.
