Woman robbed of R20 000 outside her home

AN administration officer for ESSA Christian Aids Programme (ECAP) was robbed of about R20 000 by three men who allegedly followed her from the bank to Manor, where she lives, on Tuesday.

Priscilla Pillay said: “I went to the bank to cash a cheque for R20 000 to be used to pay for the caregivers who do voluntary work for ECAP.

“I then drove to my place because I was going to pay them today [yesterday]. As I came out of my vehicle I noticed a silver grey Toyota Corrola which had three smartly dressed men, however, I did not worry because I thought that these guys were visiting someone else who live in the area,” she said.

“As I opened the gate for my car, one man came out of the car and ran towards my car to take the bag that had the money and then they drove off.

“I could not do a thing because I was still shocked at what had just happen.

“I suspect these guys had been following me from where I bank in FNB, Boom Street, because they knew exactly which bag to take and where it was,” said Pillay.

ECAP managing director, Reverend Albert Chetty, said he will have to open up bank accounts for the caregivers to avoid this situation from ever taking place again.

Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said: “Police are investigating a case of theft out of a motor vehicle. At this stage police are also investigating the possibility that she may have been followed from the bank.”

She said police are also checking CCTV to see if they can not establish any leads.
