Woman slain in front of her children

THE Mbhele family and the community at Shayamoya in KwaMpumuza are afraid and angry following the murder of a 32-year-old woman who was killed in front of her four children and mother in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The killer was allegedly her boyfriend, who has fled. Her mother is critically injured in hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said Philisiwe Mbhele and her mother, Mlulu Sizane Mbhele, were both hit on the head.

When The Witness visited the area yesterday, neighbours said they are stunned and hope the police arrest the suspect before they take the law into their own hands.

“If I can see him now I will kill him with my bare hands because I don’t know what he was thinking,” said an aunt of the deceased, Thembisile Gcabashe.

While The Witness reporter was speaking to local people, they thought they had spotted the suspect nearby.

“It’s him. It’s him,” they said softly, but minutes later they realised they were wrong.

Mbhele and her mother were living in an outbuilding in Shayamoya while their house is being built in Dambuza.

The owner of the house where they stayed, Gladys Ngcobo, said she heard noises and ran to intervene.

“I asked them to stop fighting and go to bed.

“At about 10 pm [on Saturday] I heard Philisiwe crying and I went to the outbuilding.”

She found the boyfriend sitting on the bed wearing only his underwear, shouting at Mbhele who was standing next to her mother.

“I said I don’t want noise in my house, they must please stop this.

“They seemed to have resolved the problem until about 2.30 am [on Sunday] when I again heard a terrible cry coming from their room.

“I looked out the window and I noticed the boyfriend running away from the room,” Ngcobo said.

When she went to see what had happened, she was greeted by a pool of blood on the door and the lifeless body of Mbhele and her badly injured mother on the mattress.

“We called neighbours for help and removed the children from the house,” said Hloniphile Mathe, Ngcobo’s daughter.
