Woman warns motorists

2010-11-09 00:00

FOLLOWING the harrowing death of a 24-year-old Varsity College student after a concrete block was thrown from a bridge on to the car in which she was a passenger in Durban last Tuesday, a local woman who had a brick thrown at her while driving down Sweetwaters Road has called on motorists to be vigilant.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said she has travelled on Sweetwaters Road countless times and uses the route to get to work every day.

Yesterday the windscreen of her SUV was shattered when schoolchildren waiting for transport to school threw a rock at her windscreen.

She said the incident happened just after 7 am on Wednesday morning.

She said she could not stop since she did not want to cause an accident because there were cars behind and in front of her.

“I didn’t see if it was both boys and girls, but I noticed a group of kids. I would say that they were smaller kids, younger than high school age.

“I feel it is important to create awareness, especially since someone recently died as a result of a concrete block thrown at them.

“I wanted to warn motorists who use that road,” said the woman.
