Women in Business launch Raisethorpe group

2008-08-19 00:00

Women in Business Raisethorpe, launched recently in the city as a satellite branch of the KZN midlands Women in Business, has signed up 40 members and aims to provide a networking forum to support local women aspiring to succeed in business.

WIB Raisethorpe chairwoman Fameeda Kikia, who is also a WIB committee member, said one of the aims is to help create more active participation by previously disadvantaged women.

She said local women often find it difficult to travel to regular WIB events. Women in the greater Raisethorpe area and elsewhere in the city have been invited to join the satellite branch.

The branch will hold monthly breakfast forums and regular workshops aimed at providing participants with much-needed skills.

“We want to mentor them and offer advice on things such as business plans,” Kikia said. The forums will provide a networking space and feature keynote motivational speakers.

Kikia said the idea is to encourage women to start, grow and sustain successful businesses.

Membership is R250 a year.

Kikia emphasised that women involved in non-business activities are also welcome to join the branch.

WIB was formed in 2005 with CEO Ali Engelbrecht at the helm.
