THE popular Pietermaritzburg Spar Weekend Witness Women’s 10/5 km Race takes place next Sunday, September 4, at the picturesque Oval Cricket Stadium, Alexandra Park.

About 3 000 women are expected at this year’s race, as well as a number of their male family members and friends.

Every year a part of the entry fee is donated to a particular charity. This year the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (Wessa), which works to ensure environmental sustainability for current and future South African generations, will be receiving donations from the race.

Spar is giving away R10 000 in lucky draw prizes to the runners and one lucky runner will win a two-night stay at iNsingizi Lodge near Eston plus dinner, bed and breakfast and a half-day spa treatment.

Entry forms for the Pietermaritzburg Spar Weekend Witness Women’s 10/5 km are available at participating SuperSpar, Spar and KwikSpar stores or online.

Cash or credit card payments can be made at Mr Price stores or online using a credit card. No entries will be taken on race day.

Registration (collection of race numbers and goodie bags) opens on Saturday, September 3, from noon to 5 pm and before the race on Sunday from 6 am to 7.30 am at The Oval, Alexandra Park.

The 10 km race starts at 8 am. This will be followed by the five kilometre race. All runners will receive a complimentary breakfast pack on completion of the run.

Prize money has also been increased for the race with a first prize of R6 000.
