Women’s club hockey: Varsity beat Collegians

2008-05-15 00:00

With all the inter-provincial tournaments taking place this month, there has been precious little time to fit in any club hockey.

In recent matches at the AB Jackson GreenFields Turf, Varsity A beat Collegians A 5-1 after leading 2-1 at half-time in the KZN Midlands Women’s Premier League, while Country Districts defeated Collegians B 5-0 after going in the changeover with a 2-0 advantage.

In the corresponding men’s division, Varsity II beat Collegians II 6-0.

"Varsity A are playing really nice hockey," said player/coach Lyndal Thompson. The Varsity goals came from Eloise Miskey, Fez Shazi, Sade Symons and a brace by Sian Eustice. Collegians A replied through Celia Evans.

The Varsity II men earned 10 penalty corners to Collegians’ two, and converted a pair through Craig Metherell and Kyle Emerson, the former also adding a field goal with the others going to Colin Wilson and a brace from Kyle Nipper.

While the Spar Women’s IPT kicks off on Sunday at Queensmead in Durban and the Country Districts Quadrangular is at Kearsney over the weekend, there is still place for KZN Midlands Premier League fare.

Saturday, GHS Old Girls B meet Collegians B at 4 pm with Varsity I tackling Collegians II at 5.15 pm.

There are two Men’s Premier League matches at the AB Jackson GreenFields Turf on Sunday, and one each on Monday and Wednesday.

Sunday: Collegians I vs Coll II (11 am); Varsity I vs Var II (12.30 pm).

Monday: Coll I vs Var II (7 pm).

Wednesday: Coll I vs Var I (7.30 pm).
