Workers apply finishing touches to Durban’s revamped Golden Mile

2010-05-22 00:00

CONSTRUCTION workers are working feverishly on applying the finishing touches to Durban’s Golden Mile, which now boasts a stunning promenade and several restaurants.

The promenade, a major part of the R200 million beach upgrade, stretches from uShaka Beach to the Country Club Beach. A walkway leads from Moses Mabhida Stadium to the beach.

The promenade has been widened to a width of 15 metres, and can accommodate walkers and cyclists.

Palm trees and lush grass have been planted and huge floodlights installed.

At Addington Beach, a new building will house a restaurant, ablution facilities and lifesaving offices with a massive parking area on the south side of the buliding.

At North Beach, a new walkway, a restaurant, change rooms and storage space have been constructed. Additions to Dairy Beach include a new walkway between the Ocean Sports Complex and the Rachel Finlayson pool.

The promenade along Suncoast Casino and uShaka Marine World has been widened and dunes near the old Snake Park site and along Sunkist Beach have been rehabilitated.
