Workers’ day: KZN events

SEVERAL events have been planned to celebrate Workers’ Day, with the main KZN function at Currie’s Fountain in Durban, where the ANC’s Sphiwe Nyanda and Ben Martins will speak.

At the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, Zweli Mkhize and Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge will address the public.

Premier S’bu Ndebele wished workers well and thanked them for both their contribution to the growth of the province and to the struggle for freedom.

Ndebele said today KZN ranks second as a major contributor to the national economy, accounting for 16,7% of South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product.

“The continued success of our economic performance lies in the hands of workers … ‘Long live the workers of SA’, and we pledge to contribute as much as we can in our efforts to better the lives of all … especially the poorest of the poor …”
