Workshops for visual and performing artists

THE KwaZulu-Natal branches of the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (Pansa) and Visual Arts Network of South Africa (Vansa) will be hosting a series of short skills workshops, titled Arts Savvy, for emerging arts practioners.

During the year there will be various workshops, master classes and lectures, as well as lectures prior to select productions and gallery exhibitions.

The 50-minute weekend workshop sessions at the Catalina Theatre in Durban will all have theoretical and practical components. Arts Savvy is free for all paid-up Pansa and Vansa members.

The first session takes place from 12.45 pm on March 13 and will ­cover publicity, marketing and ­critical writing for the arts. Speakers include T Bone, Illa Thompson, Peter Machen, Roland Stansell and Thomie Holtshausen.

The second session is on March 14 from 12.45 pm and will cover issues such as how to become a legal entity, arts management and finding funding. Speakers include Ashwin Singh, Sharlene Versfeld, Emma Durden, David Gouldie, KickstArt and the Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre.
