World Cup: Rural people benefit

2010-05-24 00:00

THE people of the rural area of Hlabisa under Mkhanyakude District Municipality, in the far north of the province, were given a start towards a World Cup legacy by the KwaZulu-Natal government at the weekend.

To celebrate 20 days before World Cup kickoff, the provincial government, in an inter-department venture led by the Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development Department, visited Hlabisa to bring the spirit of the event to the people of this rural area.

The government also embarked on a garden planting and cleanup campaign in Hlabisa.

The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness of the importance of proper waste management for a healthy environment and its links to economic benefits.
