World’s first tweeting badger is official spokesperson for Johannesburg Zoo

2013-07-02 00:00

HE is the world’s first badger on Twitter.

The Johannesburg Zoo has made B.G., a honey badger, its official spokesperson with its own Twitter profile.

Zoo officials say his thick skin and tough character make him the ideal candidate for the job.

While B.G. does not use his claws to type the tweets himself, he does trigger their sending. His camp is equipped with infrared sensors and as B.G. bustles about, his movements are communicated to a server, which activates his Twitter profile to send out one of hundreds of pre-typed tweets, commenting on the state of his food, visitors and the zoo itself.

B.G. can be followed on @zootweetslive or look for him on Twitter under #tweetingbadger.
