You can help: Donate to provide a needy child with a school uniform next year

2008-11-06 00:00

The generosity of Witness readers and corporate sponsors allowed the Children in Distress Network (Cindi) to sponsor school uniforms for over 900 children in the 2008 school year, and the organisation is once again launching an appeal for assistance with raising funds for children who are in desperate need of school uniforms.

The Singatha fund was established in 2004 when Cindi was awarded money by Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network for uniforms for 10 000 children, and has continued the effort ever since.

As the economic crisis continues to bite, household income is diverted to basic needs, but a lack of school uniforms often means children do not go to school at all, fearing victimisation.

Instead of posting Christmas cards this year, why not make a donation to Cindi. It costs R500 to provide a child’s uniform for a year. Donations can be made to The Children in Distress Network, Nedbank current account number 1343 074 959, Cascades branch, code 134 325. Please put your name and contact details as a reference on the deposit so Cindi can contact you to thank you. If you would prefer to donate an item of school clothing instead of cash, drop it off at the Cindi offices at 55 Jabu Ndlovu (Loop) Street — new boys’ and girls’ black shoes of any size, white shirts, grey shorts and trousers and grey jerseys are all welcome.
