Young Cobras stop new Dolphins

2013-01-07 00:00

AFTER the first three days of the CSA Franchise Cubs Week, the Highveld Lions were the only team undefeated.

The Dolphins had won two of the three matches with the other four sides all having won one game and lost two. They lost on Friday against the Cape Cobras, when the top order batting failed.

David Bedingham (ex-Wynberg) and Hayes van den Berg (ex-Rondebosch) had set a solid foundation for the Cobras as they added 103 for the first wicket. Bedingham ended on 84, adding to his half century scored in the first match. Best bowling for the Dolphins was Andile Phehlokwayo (Glenwood) who took 2/41. Only Senuran Muthusamy (ex-Clifton) offered some resistance, making 52 in the final total of 133.

Other batting highlights on Friday were Vasili Orros (ex-Grey College) who was just three runs short of a century in a win against the Titans, a well-struck 85 by Shaylen Pillay (ex-KES) and 67 by Andries Gous (ex-Grey College) following his century on the first day.

Spinner Sine Ntshona (St Andrews School) was the only bowler to take four wickets for the Knights against the Titans. Onke Nyaku (ex-Selborne) took a hat-trick for the Warriors against the Lions where Pillay was his first wicket.

Justin Dill (ex-Paul Roos) took three Dolphins’ wickets for 18.
