Young Performers' Concert: Martizburg College soloist to sing with Philharmonic Orchestra

2010-09-03 00:00

MARITZBURG College matric pupil Mohau Thamahane will be performing in the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Performers’ Concert at 7.30 pm tomorrow at The Playhouse in Durban.

Thamahane has become well-known as a soloist with the popular Maritzburg College Quartet that has been performing around the city and in the midlands. He is the only pupil from Pietermaritzburg selected for the series, which showcases the cream of KZN’s young musicians.

The young singer received a standing ovation for his rendition of Nessun Dorma at this year’s Concert in the Park at the National Botanic Gardens, and has received honours awards for choir and music.

For the Young Performers Concert, he will be performing the beautiful Se by Ennio Morricone from the film Cinema Paradiso, with the full KZNPO conducted by Naum Rousine.

Tickets are R40 (adults) and R25 (children under 12) from Computicket. Visit for full programme details.

• Maritzburg College’s cultural departments are hosting Springfest, a day of music and relaxation, in the Forder Oval from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday.

Bring your chairs and a picnic, and relax to the sound of music by Christopher Duigan, the Maritzburg College Quartet and other Maritzburg College musicians and singers. Entrance is R10 per car. — Arts Editor.
