Young photographers competition: capture the moment for a chance to win

LIBERTY Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg and the Department of Arts and Culture invite all young photographers to submit their best photographs as part of a photographic competition with the theme Love, Educate, Empower.

All you need to do is take a photo of what love means to you or capture a moment of empowerment or a unique reflection of education in your daily life.

This competition is linked to the Love, Educate, Empower, photographic exhibition at the Liberty Midlands Mall from 12th to 25th February, featuring pictures of former president, Nelson Mandela.

This exhibition will be displayed free to the public, with the kind permission of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Each photograph has a relevant accompanying quote from Mandela.

The competition is open to ages 13 to 18 and only three images per person may be entered.

For a chance to be part of Madiba’s exhibition, e-mail a high resolution version of your images to with the following details, Love – Empower – Educate Competition, name, date of birth, contact details, caption for your photo, camera make and model. The e-mails must reach us on or before February 4, 2011.

Or drop off printed copies of your photographs either at the office of the Arts and Culture Department on the second floor of 171 Boshoff Street, Pietermaritzburg, for the attention of Muzi Buthelezi; or at the Information Counter at Liberty Midlands Mall.

All images must have been taken using a camera with a sufficiently high resolution to allow the image to be reproduced at A4 size or above at 300 pixels per square inch (ppi).

Prizes include cameras, a basic digital photography course, photographic accessories and books.
