Young player needs help to reach his dream

A YOUNG Pietermaritzburg soccer player with what is described as “a rare talent”, has a chance to make a name for himself in Sweden.

Sazi Bhengu (16), from Edendale and a pupil at the Edendale Technical School, has been offered a chance to attend a soccer showcase in Sweden. He was spotted by a South African talent scout while playing in soccer trials in Johannesburg recently.

Sazi told The Witness yesterday that soccer trials were hosted by former Kaizer Chiefs soccer-player-turned-talent scout Nkosinathi Nhleko.

“It was supposed to be a three-day trial but he liked me the first day and saw so much potential from me that he offered me a chance to attend a soccer showcase that will be hosted in Sweden in July this year,” he said.

An invite from the organiser says the Sweden trials will be held from July 29 to August 9. “He [Sazi] showed a lot of potential and talent … A bright future awaits him in professional soccer.”

Sazi said the stumbling block has been to raise the close to R40 000 needed for travel, accommodation and a visa.

Sazi is described as a talented player with a bright future in soccer. He has played for the KZN soccer squad in the annual Lucas Radebe tournament in Johannesburg and at one point he played for the junior team of Mamelodi Sundowns.
