AN administrator has been appointed to take over the operations of University of Zululand, the university’s vice chancellor, Professor Ntombifikile Mazibuko, announced yesterday evening.

In a letter sent to Mazibuko, Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande said Professor Chris de Beer will start working as the institution’s administrator on April 18. He said this will continue for about two years, but it will be reviewed after a year.

“It is imperative that the university leadership assist and support Professor de Beer as he will work to restore good governance and management at the university. Professor de Beer may require the assistance of specialists as he undertakes this assignment.

“I have requested my officials to meet with yourself and Professor de Beer to discuss the terms of Professor de Beer’s appointment as administrator,” said Nzimande. — WR.
