Zululand’s instant millionaire

2012-12-20 00:00

A RICHARDS BAY man has won a whopping R2 million after matching nine lucky numbers in the Vodacom Millionaires Competition.

Bheki Khumalo (49), a factory worker and father of three girls, couldn’t believe his eyes or bank balance after he was told this week that he was the sole winner in Vodacom’s weekly competition.

Khumalo won the big cash windfall when he correctly matched all nine winning letters to win R1 million in the Vodacom Millionaires Competition. All he did was select the winning letters W Z M J T V K J C via SMS. And due to a parallel campaign being run by the mobile giant called “Double Your Million”, Khumalo was automatically awarded a further R1 million.

Double Your Million is Vodacom Millionaire’s summer promotion aimed at giving entrants the chance of doubling their winnings. The promotion will run till January 15 and is open to prepaid and contract customers.

What makes Khumalo’s win even more astounding is that he was the only South African who used Vodacom to correctly select the nine letters. If another person had correctly chosen the same letters the amount would have been split.

“I haven’t been able to sleep since I got the call from Vodacom on Tuesday …” said Khumalo.

Khumalo who lives in a rural settlement overlooking sugarcane fields near Richard’s Bay, said he would use the money to pay for his eldest daughter, aged 17, to attend medical school.
