iLembe sorry for water problems

2014-01-29 00:00

THE iLembe District Municipality has apologised to the communities of kwaDukuza, Darnall and Zamani Township for water interruptions and the poor water quality that has been experienced since Friday.

Mayor Welcome Mdabe said the interruptions were a result of damaged filters at the Darnall waterworks.

“Council has engaged external water scientists, who have conducted research and found the water to be suitable for human consumption.

“Repairs to the filters are currently under way. In the interim, water tanks have been made available to the community. The district municipality is working tirelessly to resolve the problem,” Mdabe said, adding that due to the power outages that took place in kwaDukuza, the Umvoti Water Works was unable to pump water.

As a result, communities in the kwaDukuza CBD and surrounding areas such as Warrenton, Kearsney, Stanger Manor, Town View, Lindelani and Shakaville were without water.

He attributed the interruption in Stanger Manor yesterday to a break in the water main on Tasneem Road and Grey Ridge Drive. “The water interruption is a result of water pumping; water should have been stopped for four hours.”

Mdabe said iLembe District Municipality council “apologises profusely” for the inconvenience caused.
