le Roux: man in court, faces murder charge

2012-09-22 00:00

A 32-YEAR-OLD man, Ge-Nade Duncan Maharaj, appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the murder and robbery of local advocate Susanna le Roux.

The charge sheet alleges that Le Roux was robbed and murdered on September 6 by being hit with a rubber mallet and that her body was set alight.

Her Mercedes-Benz car, furniture and tools were among items allegedly stolen by her assailant.

Maharaj, whose address, according to the charge sheet, is unknown, was not asked to plead to any charges yesterday.

He elected to apply for legal aid.

The case was postponed until September 28 to enable him to consult with his attorney.
